Southside Social and Barn Dance 2013

Southside Social and Barn Dance, July 19th and 20th 2013

Please read through the entire post if you plan to attend

This is our 11th annual gathering of performers, families, and friends!    Gates open at 3pm and we encourage everyone to arrive on Friday and camp through the weekend.  Please do carpool as onsite parking is very limited.

After over 10 years of amazing bands, performers, bonfire, theatrical entertainment, beverages, espresso stand, vendors, refreshments, potluck, camping, and more, the Southside Social and Barn Dance is STILL offered free of charge.  We need your help to keep this event going by purchasing a t-shirt, making a donation, attending a work party, etc. So please plan to buy some shirts, coffee, or make a donation based on what you can afford to contribute. For the past few years we've managed to cover our out of pocket costs which has been great.  None of us profit financially from this event, and we donate hundreds of hours in labor putting this thing together.  If we happen to bring in more than we spent out of pocket, the first people to see profit will be the performers!

Yes!: Carpooling, camping, families, volunteers, community, fun.
No!: DOGS! campfires, underage drinking, or jerks.
Please be a good guest and leave the pooch at home for this event. Because of past issues and too many people ignoring our request, we’re going to have to turn people with dogs away this year. Also, this is old news.. but as we prefer not to have cops attend our little soiree, we request that minors refrain from imbibing. Please be respectful.

One thing that we've always loved about the Social is the diverse group of folks in attendance.  Last year we had more families and kids, which we thought was great.  Please help us include everyone by creating a family friendly environment during the day--we'll do it up proper when the kiddos are asleep!

Red Heart Alarm

First Timers Guide to the Southside Social:

-This is a private party, not a public event.  We consider the folks who attend the Social to be guests in our home, so please be respectful.  Because this is a private party, we are not required to allow entrance to everyone nor are we required to allow service animals.

-When you arrive, please pull down the drive where you'll be greeted by the gate staff. They will give you a brief orientation and direct you toward your parking and camping area.  They will also check identification and stamp your wrist-this is to help us eliminate underage drinking.  If you have a dog you'll be asked to drop it back at home or at a kennel before coming to the Social.  The gate crew are  very welcoming and should be able to get you get settled in.

-Parking is SUPER TIGHT.  You should assume that you will not be able to park next to your tent. You may camp in your vehicle, but we just don't have enough room to put tents or camp areas next to cars.  We have lots of tent camping areas and are excited to have even more nice wooded spots available this year.

- We offer parking for those who aren't staying the night, as well as overnight parking.  Once you're in, you're in for the duration of the event so please plan to bring everything you need with you.  We  have some of our vehicles ready in case of emergency, but parking wise it doesn't really work for folks to come in and out of the overnight parking area.  We do have a day parking area for folks who need to leave. Please do not park on the highway.  If you do, the sheriff comes to the party.

-We offer some refreshments for sale at our coffee stand including espresso drinks, hot coffee, baked goods, and more.  We plan to offer a heartier option for dinners on Friday and Saturday and may have a food vendor. We also have a potluck kitchen if you'd like to participate. We do not sell alcohol.

-We subscribe to the "Pack it in, pack it out" ideology.

-Plan to bring your own drinking water.

-Please help keep the Social family friendly during the daylight hours.  We want kids to attend and have fun too! This is very important--we have many different types of friends and community members and we want everyone to feel welcome.  Family friendly during the day!

-It's best for us if everyone can help make the Social a success.  Some of the easy ways to contribute are by making a donation, buying a cup of coffee or a t-shirt, picking up trash, being cheerful and responsible.  If you see a need, step in and help if you're able.  We love when everyone works together and smooths out the rough spots.  Since we consider this a family reunion of sorts, we prefer not to act as security or police.  If there's real trouble or conflict, fetch us by all means...but if you see an underage drinker or a guest who's forgotten that it's family time during the day...please feel free to intervene and remind guests of our standard.
